- Profile
At Margaret Green Animal Rescue Wareham we take in pets that have become homeless due to a change in circumstances, or that have been neglected, mistreated or abandoned. Regardless of their circumstance, each pet will find a warm bed, a kind team and all the love and respect they deserve awaiting them.
We care for over 1,200 animals each year across three centres:
1: Margaret Green Animal Rescue Wareham
Margaret Green Animal Rescue Wareham is the main head ofice and home of our 35 acre Church Knowle Rehoming and Visitor Centre in the beautiful Purbeck countryside. It is home to cats, horses, donkeys, pigs, sheep, goats, rabbits, chickens, ducks and many more species. It is also a visitor centre and is open 7 days a week between 10am and 4pm. Church Knowle is also home to the charity’s head office which houses the finance, retail and fundraising teams.
2: Lincoln Farm Dog Rescue and Rehoming Centre for Dogs
Lincoln Farm Rescue and Rehoming Centre for Dogs is situated between Blandford and Bere Regis in Dorset.
3: Wingletang Rescue and Rehoming Centre for Dogs and Cats
Finally, our Wingletang Rescue and Rehoming Centre for Dogs and Cats is situated near Tavistock, in Devon.
At all our centre’s we aim to find animals their forever home but animal welfare is at the heart of every decision we make and we will always act in the animal’s best interest.
We firmly believe that every animal deserves to live its life free from distress & pain and enjoy physical & psychological stimulation. Sadly, there are too many domestic pets being bred. This then leads to vast numbers of abandoned and unwanted animals being placed into care.
Whilst in our centres, all animals live in facilities which are designed to offer a living environment that is suitable for their needs and enables them to act out their natural behaviour.
All the animals are able to enjoy exercise and are provided with lots of enrichment activities. The rescue dogs get to socialise in off-lead groups, which can really help with their chance to be rehomed as they get used to other dogs.
We pride ourselves on the standard of care each rescue pet receives. As well as veterinary care, pets are prepared and rehabilitated ready for a new home. Most of our animals are vaccinated, micro chipped, treated against worms and fleas and neutered before going to their new home.
Rehoming From Margaret Green Animal Rescue Wareham
Finding forever homes is at the very heart of what we do and there is no better feeling than knowing we have found the perfect match. Our rehoming process is therefore designed specifically to help potential owners adopt a pet that fits in perfectly with their lives and loved ones.
To see our rescue dogs who are currently looking for their new homes, please visit their rehoming profiles here to find out more about them and the homes they are looking for.
If you see an animal that you are interested in rehoming please contact the relevant centre directly who will be delighted to discuss this with you.
If we feel you may be the right match for each other you will have the chance to make an appointment, where you will be:
1: Invited to visit the centre to meet your potential new pet. You might need to visit a few times to get to know the animal, but it is really worth the wait so please be patient. Staff at the centre will be on-hand to discuss any questions you may have.
2: Able to spend time with your potential new pet. If it is a dog you are looking to rehome, you can take the dog for a walk around our on-site exercise field and play with them in our rehabilitation room. If it is a cat, you will be able to sit with them in one of our cat pens so that you can get to know each other.
3: Given the opportunity to fill out a reservation form. Within the form, you will be asked for more information regarding your home situation, including your lifestyle, to ensure that you are well-matched with each other. We will require a letter from your landlord, should you live in rented accommodation.
After adopting a pet from Margaret Green Animal Rescue you can be assured that you will always have our support. For advice and guidance, we will be right beside you whenever you need us through the adoption process and onwards as you settle into a life together.
We believe in finding the perfect match and always act in the best interest of the dog
We receive a huge amount of interest in rehoming a dog from Margaret Green Animal Rescue. Many dogs in our care require specific homes and this can mean you may not find your perfect match straight away.
We advise to keep checking the Margaret Green Animal Rescue Wareham website and express your interest with the relevant centre until we are able to match you with your forever pet. Finding your best friend is really worth the wait!
At this time, you can only visit our rehoming centres if you have a booked appointment. To see the dogs we currently have available for rehoming, please visit our website.

I'm not a charity and don't run this site for profit - I fund the site myself and do things in my spare time with the sole aim of helping all those amazing dog rescues in the UK.
I'm completely self-taught in website development so, the occasional donation helps me keep things going, learn more and build a better site. Any donations are always gratefully recieved and really appreciated - thank you so much.
