Are you thinking about getting a dog? Would you like to help a dog in need? Chilterns Dog Rescue Society will not only help you try to find the dog of the age, type and temperament to suit your home but will assist with care and training advice to make the dog you choose a real success. Whether you are looking for a cross breed or a pedigree, a puppy or a more established dog, please go to our How to Adopt a Dog page.
We ask those wishing to adopt a dog to complete an adoption application form to give us information not only about the sort of dog to which they would like to offer a home, but also about the home environment where the dog would live. We then see how this matches the type and needs of the dogs at the Rescue Centre at that time. There will be an opportunity to meet any suitable dogs and get to know them. There is no obligation to take any dog.
It is important to us that each dog is matched to the right home, which may take time, so do not feel a dog must be taken on the first visit. This is in the best interests of both the dog and the new owners. If we are not able to help immediately, all the necessary details will be retained at the Rescue Centre and prospective owners will be contacted when new dogs of interest become available. We do also ask that prospective adopters call the Rescue Centre regularly. The public are not able to view the dogs in kennels as this causes distress to our more nervous residents, but please rest assured that prospective owners will be given the opportunity to meet all appropriate dogs. If, after meeting a dog, you wish to progress the adoption then arrangements will be made to spend some more time with the dog to see how you get on with the dog and vice versa. This is an important part of making sure you go home with the right dog for you and you have a successful rehoming.
