Jerry Green Dog Rescue East Yorkshire: actively rescuing and rehoming dogs and providing a support hub.
Our founder, Jerry Green, means a lot to us. He does, but perhaps the biggest credit should go to Rusty, the spaniel we celebrate in our logo. A faithful and loving companion to Jerry Green, in 1961 Rusty’s passing inspired his owner to set up a charity to rescue and rehome stray and unwanted dogs.
Jerry Green believed that far too many dogs were being put to sleep unnecessarily, a belief that has driven the charity’s activities since the creation of its first rescue centre in Broughton, North Lincolnshire.
His legacy continued when founding Trustee Peggy Dornom, Jerry Green’s friend and business partner, took over in 1968. She remained involved with the charity until her death in 2015, by which time a number of other Jerry Green centres had sprung up across the country.
Since consolidating our resources in 2012, we now have four rescue centres and hubs – Jerry Green Dog Rescue East Yorkshire, North and South Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire. For more than 55 years since Jerry Green founded the charity back in 1961, we have been transforming the lives of abandoned and unwanted dogs by providing shelter and finding them loving homes.
The caring, ‘dog-centric’ ethos at Jerry Green Dog Rescue means we continue to put dogs at the heart of everything we do. There are too few homes for too many dogs, so we’re always looking at ways to ensure our dogs have the best quality of life while they are staying with us and we try to find their perfect match.
We are proud that we continue to be pioneering in dog welfare and rehoming. Our ground-breaking Meet&Match® approach to rehoming was first introduced in 2004. Each families who adopts a Jerry Green dog receives dedicated aftercare, training and support – once a Jerry Green dog, always a Jerry Green Dog – we are always there to help.

At Jerry Green Dog Rescue East Yorkshire we provide a Community Support Hub dedicated to making a difference in the lives of dogs and their owners. Whilst we actively rescue and rehome dogs across the area East Yorkshire is actually the hub for the coordination of our community support schemes which are a vital part of our mission. It is also where we pilot new schemes before exploring which schemes can be rolled out into our other service areas.
Our Community Support Manager has years of experience in the dog welfare sector and applies all of this knowledge to the community schemes we offer across the whole of East Yorkshire. Being mobile, Lauren and her team are able to offer assistance throughout the county, offering a range of services to help dogs and their families thrive.
At Jerry Green Dog Rescue East Yorkshire we are also extremely proud to be able to offer Home from Home® rehoming services in the East Yorkshire area. This rehoming service offers a compassionate solution for owners who can no longer care for their dogs, where it is appropriate for the dog to stay in the home until the dog is rehomed to a new owner(s).
If a Home from Home® placement is not suitable, Jerry Green Dog Rescue East Yorkshire may be able to coordinate with our other sites to offer a rescue space where possible, ensuring every dog has the chance of a bright future, regardless of their situation.
At Jerry Green Dog Rescue East Yorkshire recognise that pet ownership comes with financial responsibilities. That’s why we offer community support schemes in East Yorkshire, providing assistance with dog essentials such as food, walking equipment and more.
