Jerry Green Dog Rescue South Lincolnshire Centre – a beacon of hope for dogs since its establishment in 1997, nestled in Algarkirk, Boston.
Jerry Green Dog Rescue South Lincolnshire – About Us
Our founder, Jerry Green, means a lot to us. He does, but perhaps the biggest credit should go to Rusty, the spaniel we celebrate in our logo. A faithful and loving companion to Jerry Green, in 1961 Rusty’s passing inspired his owner to set up a charity to rescue and rehome stray and unwanted dogs.
Jerry Green believed that far too many dogs were being put to sleep unnecessarily, a belief that has driven the charity’s activities since the creation of its first rescue centre in Broughton, North Lincolnshire.
His legacy continued when founding Trustee Peggy Dornom, Jerry Green’s friend and business partner, took over in 1968. She remained involved with the charity until her death in 2015, by which time a number of other Jerry Green centres had sprung up across the country.
Since consolidating our resources in 2012, we now have four rescue centres and community hubs – Jerry Green Dog Rescue South Lincolnshire, North Lincolnshire, East Yorkshire Community Support Hub and Nottinghamshire. For more than 55 years since Jerry Green founded the charity back in 1961, we have been transforming the lives of abandoned and unwanted dogs by providing shelter and finding them loving homes.
The caring, ‘dog-centric’ ethos at Jerry Green Dog Rescue means we continue to put dogs at the heart of everything we do. There are too few homes for too many dogs, so we’re always looking at ways to ensure our dogs have the best quality of life while they are staying with us and we try to find their perfect match.
We are proud that we continue to be pioneering in dog welfare and rehoming. Our ground-breaking Meet&Match® approach to rehoming was first introduced in 2004. Each families who adopts a Jerry Green dog receives dedicated aftercare, training and support – once a Jerry Green dog, always a Jerry Green Dog – we are always there to help.

Jerry Green Dog Rescue – Our Vision
Our vision is a world where every dog has a good life and a safe, loving home. We exist to find safe, loving homes for dogs and to support people to give their dogs as good a life as possible.
Since 1961, we developed deep expertise in successful rescue, rehoming and welfare. We strive to be exemplars in rescue standards. Every dog we care for is assessed by our experienced and qualified Dog Welfare Team and supported with an individual behaviour plan. Each dog sees a vet and receives the care they need.
We are proud of the welfare standard in our kennels. Every dog receives at least two walks a day and, when it is right for the dog, we take them on a trip off-site so we can understand what makes them happy in the ‘real world. New mothers and puppies are cared for in our special ‘home rooms’, with additional support and care. Every kennel is personalised to the dog, allowing them to choose their beds, and even their water bowls. From enrichment activities to CCTV, welfare is at the heart of what we do. As importantly, our dedicated Welfare Team and Centre Trainers have the time to get to know and understand each individual dog.
Jerry Green Dog Rescue – Our Mission
Jerry Green believed all dogs deserved a good life and a safe, loving home. Jerry Green Dog Rescue exists:
- to relieve the suffering of dogs in need of care and attention and in particular to provide and maintain rescue homes or other facilities for the reception, care and treatment of such animals;
- to promote humane behaviour towards dogs by providing appropriate care, protection, treatment and security for dogs in need of care and attention for reasons of sickness, maltreatment, poor circumstance or ill usage; and
- to educate the public in matters pertaining to dog welfare in general and the prevention of cruelty and suffering among dogs.
Dog Rescue Jerry Green – Our Values
Jerry Green Dog Rescue’s Values are honesty, kindness, compassion and purposefulness. We strive to reflect these in all we do.
When Jerry Green established our organisation back in 1961 he wanted to revolutionise the quality of life for rescue dogs in North Lincolnshire. He believed all dogs deserved a good life and a safe, loving home.
But Jerry Green was not only interested in dogs locally. He wanted the good practices he established to influence other dog rescue centres and set up a charity that promoted more humane treatment of all dogs, opposed vivisection and would campaign and lead public education accordingly. More than 55 years on, we reiterate the values of Jerry Green, updating them to be suitable for our modern mission.
Jerry Green set out the following principles which we remain committed to through all of our work:
- We will raise public awareness of the benefits and responsibilities of giving a loving home to a dog.
- We will not allow our dogs to be used in activities that put their welfare, or the welfare of other animals, at risk. (This includes, but not exclusively, racing, fighting, hunting, shooting, circuses or other forms of public entertainment that involves unnatural dog behaviour).
- We do not support tail docking except when a medical necessity.
- No dog chooses to be born. Every puppy bred or farmed for profit means there is one home fewer for a dog awaiting adoption at our centres. Society has a duty to be responsible about the number of dogs bred and to limit numbers to those who can be properly homed and cared for. We will raise public awareness that thousands of dogs are in rescue centres whilst breeders continue to add to an already oversized dog population.
- We will raise public awareness of the welfare consequences of irresponsible breeding and puppy farms.
- We do not support the breeding of dogs with known genetic deformities.
- We will not participate in, or allow our dogs to participate in formal dog shows that involve breeds with known genetic deformities.
- We support the full implementation of the RSPCA roadmap to improve the genetics of pedigree breeding.
- We respect and continue to support Jerry Green’s antivivisection beliefs especially relating to the use of dogs in experimentation.
- We will not engage with, or invest in, organisations or individuals who compromise the welfare of animals or engage in activities contrary to these core principles.

I'm not a charity and don't run this site for profit - I fund the site myself and do things in my spare time with the sole aim of helping all those amazing dog rescues in the UK.
I'm completely self-taught in website development so, the occasional donation helps me keep things going, learn more and build a better site. Any donations are always gratefully recieved and really appreciated - thank you so much.
