Dog Rescue Jerry Green North Lincolnshire History

Our founder, Jerry Green, means a lot to us. He does, but perhaps the biggest credit should go to Rusty, the spaniel we celebrate in our logo. A faithful and loving companion to Jerry Green, in 1961 Rusty’s passing inspired his owner to set up a charity to rescue and rehome stray and unwanted dogs. Jerry Green believed that far too many dogs were being put to sleep unnecessarily, a belief that has driven the charity’s activities since the creation of its first rescue centre in Broughton, North Lincolnshire.

His legacy continued when founding Trustee Peggy Dornom, Jerry Green’s friend and business partner, took over in 1968. She remained involved with the charity until her death in 2015, by which time a number of other Jerry Green centres had sprung up across the country.

Since consolidating our resources in 2012, we now have four dog rehoming centres and community hubs – Jerry Green Dog Rescue North Lincolnshire Centre, South Lincolnshire, East Yorkshire Community Support Hub and Nottinghamshire. For more than 55 years since Jerry Green founded the charity back in 1961, we have been transforming the lives of abandoned and unwanted dogs by providing shelter and finding them loving homes.

The caring, ‘dog-centric’ ethos at Jerry Green Dog Rescue means we continue to put dogs at the heart of everything we do. There are too few homes for too many dogs, so we’re always looking at ways to ensure our dogs have the best quality of life while they are staying with us and we try to find their perfect match.

We are proud that we continue to be pioneering in dog welfare and rehoming. Our ground-breaking Meet&Match® approach to rehoming was first introduced in 2004. Each families who adopts a Jerry Green dog receives dedicated aftercare, training and support – once a Jerry Green dog, always a Jerry Green Dog – we are always there to help.

The Jerry Green Dog Rescue North Lincolnshire centre holds a special place in the heart of Jerry Green Dog Rescue, being our very first rescue and rehoming centre established back in 1961. Steeped in history and cherished values spanning decades, it stands as a testament to our enduring commitment to dog welfare. 

Under the compassionate leadership of the Centre Manager, our dedicated team at the North Lincolnshire centre strives to uphold the highest standards of care for both our canine residents and our valued customers. With a variety of services tailored to meet the diverse needs of our community and surrounding areas, we aim to make a positive impact in the lives of dogs and their owners. 

With some team members boasting over 20 years of service, we aim to provide a consistently warm and welcoming atmosphere for both our supporters and our dogs. We take immense pride in collaborating with local charitable organisations to extend support and services to owners and their beloved dogs facing challenging times.

Embracing the diversity of our local community, Jerry Green Dog Rescue North Lincolnshire are actively working to offer enhanced support to ethnic minority groups, breaking down language barriers and bridging cultural differences to promote positive dog welfare for all. 

At the Jerry Green Dog Rescue North Lincolnshire centre, we offer a range of services including: 

• Dog boarding kennels 
• Paddock hire 
• Dog bath hire 

We also extend our outreach efforts to communities in need, offering support, advice, and assistance with food to help families keep their beloved dogs in their homes. 

At Jerry Green Dog Rescue North Lincolnshire our doors are open daily from 10am to 3pm for general enquiries and donation deliveries.

All other services including our Meet&Match® appointments and intake enquiries are available by pre-appointment only, as we like to ensure we provide personalised attention and care to every individual and their furry companions.
