Waggy Tails Rescue is a registered charity based near Poole and Bournemouth. The Waggy Tails story is about happy dogs, happy people and happy homes. We always put the animal first – then the rest will follow. We have a no destruction policy. No healthy animal is ever put to sleep, which means that as well as re-homing we also look after dogs in long term foster homes. These tend to be dogs who are too ill or too old to be re-homed but we feel that these “oldies” have a right to a dignified and happy retirement. We need foster homes and sponsorship for our “oldies” whose vets bills are consistently high!
Adoption Criteria:
- Dogs must not be left more than 4 hours a day
- Households cannot have children under 6 years old
- You must live within East Dorset or West Hampshire (BH and SO40-45 postcodes)
- You must have a secure rear garden
It is the charity’s policy not to home a dog where there is already an unneutered dog in residence.
The Charity was started by Shelagh Meredith in 1994 after she answered an advertisement. A rescue in Wales was looking for homes for dogs, so she volunteered to help. Since then thousands of unwanted and abandoned dogs have been re-homed into new, loving family environments. We have also found new homes for cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, rats, hamsters, mice, budgies, one-legged cockatiels, battery chickens, 3 horses, 2 goats, 1 duck and a parrot.
We rehome within East Dorset and West Hampshire. This enables us to conduct prehoming checks and follow up visits. Waggy Tails also runs an advice service which deals with pet problems and can direct enquiries to the best available help if we cannot help ourselves.
